Tabebuia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Bignoniaceae. The common name “roble” is sometimes found in English. Tabebuias have been called “trumpet trees”, but this name is usually applied to other trees and has become a source of confusion and misidentification. Tabebuia consists almost entirely of trees, but a few are often large shrubs. A few species produce timber, but the genus is mostly known for those that are cultivated as flowering trees. Tabebuia is native to the American tropics and subtropics from Mexico and the Caribbean to Argentina. Most of the species are from Cuba and Hispaniola. It is commonly cultivated and often naturalised or adventive beyond its natural range.

Tabebuia chrysantha, synonymously known as Handroanthus chrysanthus, and commonly known Golden Trumpet Tree in English and as Araguaney in Venezuela, as Guayacán in Colombia, Panama, and Ecuador, as Tajibo in Bolivia, and as Ipê-amarelo in Brazil, is a native tree of the intertropical broadleaf deciduous forests of South America above the Tropic of Capricorn. It is a rounded to spreading, deciduous tree that puts on a show of sweetly scented, golden yellow, trumpet shaped flowers during spring. Tabebuia makes an excellent shade tree, lawn tree, street tree, or for border planting well suited to the urban environment. They respond well to pruning which is best done after flowering which also makes it an excellent choice of tree to use as a subject in the art of bonsai. This species grows well in coastal environment being quite tolerant of the salty air. They grow best in a sunny position with damp and rich soil.
