Habenaria, commonly called bog orchids, are a far-ranging genus placed in the Orchidaceae family. There are approximately 800-1000 species of Habenaria, native to every continent except Antarctica, in both tropical and temperate zones. Habenaria species have small to large underground root tubers and erect stems 20 to 80 cm in length. The flowers are generally green, white, yellow and green, or white and green, but a few exceptions have brilliant red flowers. They are perennial and deciduous, with the entire above-ground part of the plant dying back each year. Under cultivation and in the right conditions they grow well in pots and baskets.
Habenaria dentata is an eye-catching orchid native to the Himalaya, China, India, Indochina, Thailand and Myanmar where it is found in open secondary grasslands, in semi-deciduous and deciduous dry lowland forests and savana-like woodlands at elevations of 600 meters to around 1800 meters. It is a medium to large sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial orchid. It is also found at Phalee. The whole plant is about 35 to 80 cm in height. It has a smooth round tuber that give rise to a single plant.
