Papaver is a genus of 70 to 100 species of frost-tolerant annuals, biennials, and perennials native to temperate and cold regions of Eurasia, Africa and North America. It is the type genus of the poppy family, Papaveraceae.
A prolific bloomer, Poppy ‘Pizzicato’ semi-dwarf oriental poppies produce as many as 20 huge 15-20cm flowers per plant in shades of salmon, orange, red, scarlet, mauve, pink and white. With their contrasting black blotches at the base of their petals, these hardy perennials put on an absolutely stunning show in spring and early summer. Flowers are held on strong 50cm tall stems which withstand strong winds making them ideal border plants in the garden. Also a great cutflower. These long lived poppies do not need to be divided and will grow for years in the same location. These are easy from seed and cold hardy to -40°C.
