Ipomopsis is a genus of flowering plants in the phlox family, Polemoniaceae. The annual and perennial herbs it contains are native to the Americas, particularly North America.

This Texas wildflower is terrific for attracting hummingbirds. The scarlet-red, trumpet-shaped flowers bloom on tall stems in late summer. Ipomopsis rubra, commonly known as Standing Cypress and sometimes referred to as Sky Rocket is a drought resistant plant that sometimes performs as a perennial, biennial, or even an annual, depending on cultural conditions. It does well in dry sandy soils and flowers all summer. It grows 60cm to 150cm tall and should be spaced 45cm to 60cm apart.
