Bobartia orientalis subsp. orientalis, commonly known as Common Eastern Rushiris in English and Biesie or Geelblombiesie in Afrikaans, is endemic to South Africa, and ranges from Riviersonderend east to the Kei River with outlying populations in the Little Karoo on the Swartberg and Gamkaberg occurring on a wide variety of substrates, in fynbos, especially grassy fynbos, and in renosterveld. Its growth and flowering is strongly stimulated by fire. For most of the year this perennial bulbous plant bears eye-catching luminescent bright yellow flowers.
