Braunsia is a genus of succulent plant in the family Aizoaceae, indigenous to South Africa.

Braunsia geminata, synonymously known as Echinus mathewsii, Mesembryanthemum geminatum, Mesembryanthemum mathewsii or Ruschia polita and commonly known as Gem Hedgehogfig, is a South African endemic species from the Western Cape Province ranging from Ceres to the Klein Karoo and Prince Albert growing on shale slopes amongst fynbos. The plants are shrublets or creepers, characterized by their serrated, partially fused leaves. The beautiful flowers, ranging in colour from salmon to pink to white, bloom in winter and spring, opening and closing in the afternoon.
