Euclea is a group of flowering plants, belonging to family Ebenaceae, the ebony family, described as a genus by Linnaeus in 1774. It includes evergreen trees and shrubs, native to Africa, the Comoro Islands, and Arabia. Several species are used for timber, producing a hard, dark heartwood timber similar to ebony.

Euclea acutifolia, commonly known as Fynbos Guarri, is a South African endemic shrub or small tree that reaches 2-7 meters tall. Sometimes it forms a suffrutex, less than 1 meter tall. The bark is greyish, rough and fissured, flaking in thick pieces. The elliptic leaves are up to 12 × 4 cm and densely hairy below. The flowers in dense, branched axillary heads, are greenish-white or cream, most parts covered in dense rusty woolly hairs. The fruit are in clusters, round and about 7 mm in diameter, sometimes rusty hairy and red to black.
