Lapeirousia is a genus with about 40 species in the Iridaceae family that is found across sub-Saharan Africa from Nigeria and Ethiopia to the southwestern Cape. Leaves are flat and curved to narrow and pleated.
Lapeirousia lewisiana, synonymously known as Lapeirousia dolomitica subsp. lewisiana, is a rare South African endemic species found in the Northern Cape province. From late winter to mid-winter it produces bright purple flowers with dark purple markings. It can be found from Namaqualand Heuweltjie Strandveld to the Stinkfonteinberge on the Eastern Apron Shrubland.
