The Monopsis genus consists of 16 species, all of which are indigenous to South Africa where they can be found from Namaqualand to the southern Cape, east to KwaZulu-Natal and north to Limpopo.
Monopsis stellarioides ssp. schimperiana, synonymously known as Monopsis stellarioides schimperana, Lobelia violaceoaurantiaca, Monopsis schimperiana, Lobelia mukuluensis or Monopsis brevicalyx, is a South African indigenous annual or perennial found growing in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces. For most of the year it produces lovely eye-catching salmon-pink to cream-yellow flowers.
