Sebaea is a genus of annual plants in the family Gentianaceae. Species occur in Africa, Madagascar, India, China, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. The generic name honours Albertus Seba, a Dutch pharmacist, zoologist and collector who live from 1665 to 1736. In 1700, he opened an apothecary shop in Amsterdam and collected exotic plants and animal products from sailors and ship surgeons from which he could make medicines.
Sebaea exacoides, synonymously known as Belmontia cordata and commonly known as Naeltjiesblom or Naeltjiesbossie in Afrikaans and Painted Yellowwort in English, is a South African endemic annual that grows from 5 to 30cm tall simple to slightly branched annual with large yellow to cream flowers with red nectar guides during spring.
