Nicipe is a genus of perennial plants mostly native to southern Europe and southern Africa belonging to the family Asparagaceae. Some species are native to other areas such as the Caucasus.
Nicipe graminifolia, synonymously known as Ornithogalum graminifolium, is a South African indigenous perennial flowering bulbous plant found in the Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Western Cape Provinces. Other synonyms include Chlorophytum vaginatum, Ornithogalum aloiforme, Ornithogalum angustifolium, Ornithogalum attenuatum, Ornithogalum brevifolium, Ornithogalum crispifolium, Ornithogalum humifusum, Ornithogalum inandense, Ornithogalum longiscapum, Ornithogalum natalense, Ornithogalum pubescens, Ornithogalum stenophyllum and Ornithogalum trichophyllum. It is a bulbous geophyte up to 40cm. Leaves 2-5, grass-like, linear, channelled, 8-25cm long, sometimes hairy, dry or green at flowering; flowers small, white, dull-yellow or pinkish with dark keels, only a few open at a time; in spike-like raceme on long flowering stem.
