Odontophorus, belonging to the Aizoaceae family, thrive in containers outside of their habitat. They are best grown in well-drained soil. Seeds germinate readily and plants can also be grown from cuttings. They are all winter growing. They are found in the vicinity of Steinkopf in the Richtersveld.
Odontophorus angustifolius ssp. protoparcoides is a rare South African endemic species found in the Northern Cape, West of Steinkopf growing on sandstone ridges, rocky slopes and hilltops. Odontophorus angustifolius ssp. protoparcoides is a small caespitose succulent shrub up to 8 cm tall, occasionally forming large mats up to three meters across, but usually much smaller.
