Odontophorus, belonging to the Aizoaceae family, thrive in containers outside of their habitat. They are best grown in well-drained soil. Seeds germinate readily and plants can also be grown from cuttings. They are all winter growing. They are found in the vicinity of Steinkopf in the Richtersveld.

Odontophorus pusillus is a South African endemic species found in the Northern Cape province, growing in Namaqualand at elevations of 1100m above sea level. Odontophorus pusillus grows in quartz gravel patches, mainly on the upper slopes of larger inselbergs. Annual precipitation is approximately 100 mm, mostly in winter. Odontophorus pusillus is a small succulent shrub up to 8 cm tall by 8 cm with margins of leaves often toothed apically.
