Hymenocardia is a genus of trees in the family Phyllanthaceae first described as a genus in 1836. Most of the species are native to Africa, with one in Southeast Asia.

Hymenocardia ulmoides is a South African indigenous species from the KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo Provinces. Common names include Red-heart Tree, Rooihartboom or Small Red-heart. It grows into a shrub or small tree of up to 5 meters tall. The young leaves are red. The male flowers are pinkish catkins and the female flowers are green like a miniature fruit. This tree makes very strong wood.
