The genus Roepera is in the family Zygophyllaceae in the major group Angiosperms. Zygophyllaceae is a family of flowering plants that contain the bean-caper and caltrop. The family includes around 285 species in 22 genera.

Roepera fuscatum grows into an erect shrub of up to 1 meter tall. It has bifoliate leaves. From autumn to spring it bears deep yellow flowers that may have red markings. It is usually found growing on coastal limestone areas.
