Baeckea is a genus of flowering shrubs or small trees in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae, all but one native to Australia.
Baeckea virgata, synonymously known as Sannatha virgata, is an attractive shrub native to Australia, with an elegant, weeping or cascading growth habit bearing masses of small white flowers in summer. It is a hardy, evergreen shrub which responds well to pruning and therefore works well as a hedge or screen in the garden. It also makes an interesting subject for use in the art of bonsai. Baeckea enjoys a full sun to part shade position and while it can grow in a wide range of soil types, it prefers a well-drained loamy soil. Established plants are frost hardy, can tolerate periods of drought and can grow well at the coast.
