The genus Vanheerdea is in the family Aizoaceae. The species of Vanheerdea are uncommon in collections. The genus Vanheerdea occurs in Bushmanland in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. Their habitat straddles winter and summer rainfall areas. The genus is characterized by succulent yellow-green leaves with rows of small teeth on the leaf margins and keels. Each branch can produce up to three yellow-orange flowers. All species are sheathed in the summer with new leaves emerging in autumn. They need adequate water in the spring when they are active and bloom. They need lots of light to look their best.

Vanheerdea roodiae, synonymously known as Rimaria divergens, Rimaria roodiae, Vanheerdea angusta and Vanheerdea divergens, is a South African endemic species found in the Northern Cape province. It is a dwarf compact groundcover perennial succulent. It is not sunken or partly sunken and grows in tight mats or clusters of 20-40 branches.


