The genus Trimeria is in the family Salicaceae in the major group Angiosperms (Flowering plants). The genus consists of dioecious trees or shrubs. The genus consists of two species which are found in Tropical Africa and South Africa.

Trimeria grandifolia commonly known as Grootblaarysterhout, Lindeboom, Wilde-appel or Wildemoerbei in Afrikaans and Wild Mulberry or Ears of the Spirits in English is a South African indigenous species from the Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Western Cape Provinces. It is synonymously known as Antidesma alnifolium, Trimeria alnifolia and Trimeria grandifolia. Trimeria grandifolia is an evergreen to deciduous shrub or small tree of up to 10 meters tall. It occurs in forests and on forest margins. It bears fruit that are eaten by birds.


