Adansonia is a genus of eight species of trees. Six species are native to Madagascar; one is native to mainland Africa and the Arabian Peninsula with some in India and some in Australia. The mainland African species, Adansonia digitata, also occurs on Madagascar but it is not a native of that island.
Adansonia rubrostipa is the smallest of the Madagascar baobabs. In open soil it usually grows to about 5m but can reach 20m sometimes. The trunk is bottle shaped with a distinct constriction beneath the branches. The crown is irregular. Bark is usually redish brown when mature, but grey and rugous when young. Flowers are bright yellow to orange yellow.
