Albizia is a genus of about 150 species of mostly fast-growing subtropical and tropical trees and shrubs in the Subfamily Mimosoideae of the legume family, Fabaceae. The genus is pantropical, occurring in Asia, Africa, Madagascar, Central, South, and southern North America and Australia, but mostly in the Old World tropics.
Albizia petersiana ssp. evansii commonly known as Many-Stems False-Thorn in English and Meerstam-valsdoring in Afrikaans, is a South African indigenous deciduous tree, found in the KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces, usually growing to around 9 meter tall. It has grey bark that peels in thin strips. During spring it flowers and the flowers are followed by reddish purple pods. It is a dense, multi-stemmed V-shaped tree.
