Chamaecrista is a genus of flowering plants in the pea family, Fabaceae, subfamily Caesalpinioideae. Members of the genus are commonly known as sensitive pea. Several species are capable of rapid plant movement. Unlike the related genera Cassia and Senna, members of Chamaecrista form root nodules.
Chamaecrista fasciculata, commonly known as the Partridge Pea displays lovely yellow blooms until the first frost in late autumn. This annual wildflower also provides seed pods for birds to enjoy! This curiosity plants leaves are sensitive to touch and also close up in the evening. It will self-sow freely! It grows 30-45cm in height and should be spaced 40-45cm apart in full sun to part shade.
