Gorteria is a genus of small annual herbaceous plants or shrubs, with 8 known species, that is assigned to the daisy family Asteraceae. The species of the genus Gorteria can be found in Namibia and South Africa.

Gorteria diffusa is a rare and fascinating annual with bright & shiny orange daisy-like flowers that have eyes that appear to look back at you. These “eyes” have evolved to mimic the female of a small South African bee fly enticing males to the flowers to mate ensuring successful pollination. Thrilling us with its mass of showy 5 cm blooms held close to the ground, it forms a spreading groundcover. Best in full sun & well-drained soil.
