Begonia is a genus of perennial flowering plants in the family Begoniaceae. The genus contains more than 2,000 different plant species.

Begonia wallichiana was described and the name validly published by Ernst Gottlieb von Steudel in 1851. Begonia wallichiana is a species in the genus Begonia which contains between 1545 and 1724 species and belongs to the family of the Begoniaceae (Begonia Family). The type species of the genus is Begonia obliqua. Begonia wallichiana is deciduous. The leaves are alternate. Begonia wallichiana is native to India. The plants tolerate temperatures only above at least 1°C.
