Huge plumes of fern-like foliage win this hardy wildflower a green medal! These tall, bushy plants unfurl their verdant display at summer’s beginning, and clusters of cream wildflowers soon appear in the greenery. Autumn brings out the brown seed heads which congregate nicely, and add autumn interest. Food for butterfly larvae too! This species of Astragalus’ root is used medicinally as an analgesic and antihaemorrhagic. It can be chewed or used as a tea to treat chest and back pains, coughs and the spitting up of blood. It grows 60cm to 120cm in height, should be spaced 45cm to 60cm apart in full sun to light shade.
