Dalbergia is a large genus of small to medium-size trees, shrubs and lianas in the pea family, Fabaceae. The genus has a wide distribution, native to the tropical regions of Central and South America, Africa, Madagascar and southern Asia. They are often used as a subject for the art of bonsai.

Dalbergia martini commonly known as Zambezi flat-bean grows into a shrub, climber or small tree of 2 to 3 meters. It has dark chocolate-brown bark. During summer it bears sweetly scented smallish white pea-shaped flowers in sprays.
