Beaumontia is a small genus of evergreen woody vines in the milkweed family, Apocynaceae. It is native to China, the Indian subcontinent, and Southeast Asia.
Beaumontia grandiflora, commonly known as Easter Lily Vine, Herald’s Trumpet, or Nepal Trumpet Flower is an evergreen vine widely cultivated for its showy, trumpet shaped, scented white flowers which are borne from spring, through summer and into autumn. It can be deciduous in colder climates or unusually cold winters. Grows well in full sun and in dappled shade and prefers fertile but well-drained soil. The roots and leaves are used in the treatment of fractures, injury, and backache and leg pain caused by rheumatism. The young twigs and branches contain fibre which is used for making coarse ropes. The fibre from seed hairs, which are easily separated from the seeds, is said to be not only the most lustrous and most purely white of all the so-called ‘vegetable silks’, but also possesses a remarkable degree of strength.
