Ehretia is a genus of flowering plants in the borage family, Boraginaceae. It contains about 50 species. The generic name honours German botanical illustrator Georg Dionysius Ehret. Ehretia is becoming very popular as garden plants because they are hardy and drought resistant.

Ehretia obtusifolia forms a small tree which, in nature, is multi-stemmed & much branched with dull olive green softly hairy leaves. From winter to summer it carries clusters of small white sweetly scented flowers. The fleshy, glossy, orange to black fruits are edible.
