Euryops is the quintessential “fynbos daisy” – a genus of sun-loving shrubs and subshrubs that light up rocky hillsides and grasslands across southern Africa with masses of golden flowers. Belonging to the daisy family (Asteraceae), Euryops species are generally evergreen, drought-tolerant and long-lived, forming neat hummocks or woody mounds covered in fine, often aromatic foliage. When in bloom they can be almost completely smothered in bright yellow daisies, creating a haze of colour that draws in bees, butterflies and other pollinators.

Euryops evansii – Drakensberg True-Eye

Euryops evansii is a distinctive species that often forms compact to medium shrubs with attractive foliage and a particularly generous flowering habit. Leaves are typically narrow to finely lobed, arranged densely along the stems, giving a neat, textured effect. Throughout the flowering season the plant is adorned with bright yellow daisies, which can almost cover the upper stems when at peak.

Originating from South African habitats with good sun and excellent drainage, Euryops evansii thrives under similar conditions in the garden.
