Hesperantha elsiae is a critically rare South African endemic perennial known from one site in the Krom River Kloof in the southern Cederberg Mountains in the Western Cape Province growing amongst fynbos in damp places along streams on south-facing rocky sandstone slopes at around 1 200 m elevation.

Endemic to South Africa and naturally restricted, it is tied to particular local habitats in the wild, which adds to its appeal for conservation-minded growers and serious bulb enthusiasts.
