Kniphofia (Red hot poker, Torch lily, Poker plant) is a genus of plants in the family Asphodelaceae that includes 70 or more species native to Africa. Some species have been commercially used for horticultural use and are commonly known for their bright, rocket-shaped flowers. These plants produce spikes of brightly-coloured, hanging, red-to-orange flowers. This gives names such as “torch” and “red hot poker” to many of them.
Kniphofia galpinii, also known as the Galpin red-hot poker, is a flowering plant species in the Kniphofia genus, native to Eswatini and South Africa. It has earned the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit and is also referred to as the Orange Flame Poker, Dwarf Salmon Poker, or Galpin’s Poker. This robust perennial bulb grows to a height of 0.4 to 0.6 meters and is a hardy garden plant, making it perfect for mixed borders. It also adds a vibrant touch to rockeries or more informal grassland gardens. With its stunning flower display, Kniphofia galpinii provides colorful blooms throughout spring and summer, making it ideal for mass planting.
