Leipoldtia is a genus of flowering plants, collectively known as mesembs or vygies, belonging to the family Aizoaceae. They grow naturally in Namibia and the Cape Province of South Africa. The generic name of Leipoldtia is in honour of C. Louis Leipoldt who was a South African medical doctor, poet, dramatist, reporter and food expert.
Leipoldtia schultzei, commonly known as Langbeen T’nouroebos in Afrikaans, is a South African endemic species found in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Northern Cape provinces that grows into a sprawling perennial succulent shrub with manifest magenta flowers. It makes a great addition to a rockery or informal border in the garden.
