Lobelia is a genus of flowering plants in the Campanulaceae family comprising 415 species, of which 69 are indigenous to South Africa.

Lobelia tomentosa, synonymously known as Lobelia caerulea, Lobelia caerulea var. caerulea, Lobelia caerulea var. macularis, Lobelia coronopifolia var. caerulea, Lobelia coronopifolia var. macularis or Lobelia pinifolia var. laricina, is a South African indigenous species found in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces. This tufted shrublet branches from the base and has hairy stems. The hard, hairy leaves are long and narrow, up to 5 mm in width. They are toothed with margins that are rolled under. The gorgeous tiny flowers are borne on long, wiry, erect stalks and are present all year.


