Massonia is a genus in the Hyacinthaceae family found in dry areas in southern Africa. There are 6 species with four from the South African Cape province. Most species are winter growers and bloom early so probably need to be started into growth in late summer, early fall. Easily grown from seed and making a nice pot plant, each year they increase in size and the leaves can soon become crowded. Eventually one to a container may be about right.

Massonia bakeriana, commonly known as Northern Pustulate Hedgehog Lily, is a South African indigenous perennial bulbous plant with pustulate leaves and white flowers, found in the Northern Cape Province. It is a relatively newly discovered species and was only described in 2015. It is found growing in the Kamiesberg and the Bokkeveld Plateau area at altitudes between 700m and 1000m but also in the Jan Swartsberge and Slangberge where it grows between 1000 and 1300 m.
