Alonsoa is a genus of 12 species of flowering plants in the family Scrophulariaceae commonly known as Mask Flowers. typically flowers from spring or early summer. Alonsoa typically grows to be between 30 and 90 cm in height. Mask flowers have pink, white or red petals with yellow stamens. They are normally grown as border plants or on a cutting bed. The genus is native to Central and western South America with two species are native to South Africa.
Alonsoa meridionalis, or Red Mask Flower is a short-lived perennial in temperate climates or annual in colder climates that is native to Chile. It grows to about 90cm tall and 45cm wide and self-sows. This species grows well at the coast. The red flowers bloom from spring to summer and works well in a mixed border.
