Sparaxis villosa is a South African endemic species from the Western Cape Province. It was previously known as Gladiolus bicolor, Gladiolus villosus, Ixia bicolor, Sparaxis bicolor, Synnotia bicolor and Synnotia villosa. It grows from 15cm to 35cm tall and is usually found growing in clay soils. In spring it bears fragrant yellow, white & mauve flowers. Sparaxis is a winter-growing, summer-dormant genus.
