The genus Stoebe is a fascinating and diverse group of plants belonging to the daisy family (Asteraceae), largely endemic to southern Africa. Stoebe capitata, previously known as Gymnachaena bruniades, Perotriche tortilis, Stoebe affinis, Stoebe bruniades or Stoebe mossii and commonly known as Bergslangbos, Pienkhofie-slangbos or Slangbos in Afrikaans, is a South African endemic perennial shrub found in the Eastern Cape and Western Cape provinces, growing amongst fynbos from the Cederberg southwards to the Cape Peninsula and eastwards to Humansdorp. From summer to winter, the white to purple flowers that attract butterflies to the garden appear.
