Acer is a genus of trees and shrubs commonly known as maples. The genus is placed in the family Sapindaceae. There are approximately 132 species, most of which are native to Asia, with a number also appearing in Europe, northern Africa, and North America.

Acer negundo is a species of maple native to North America. It is a small and usually fast-growing tree. When planted in open soil it may reach 10–25m in height with a trunk diameter of 30–50cm. It often has several trunks and can form impenetrable thickets. This maple is another popular bonsai candidate.
