Aloe breviscapa is a rare, cliff-dwelling aloe from the gypsum and limestone hills of north-eastern Somalia, where it grows in small colonies on sun-baked rocky slopes and ledges. In cultivation it forms a neat, stemless rosette of smooth, deep green leaves that arch slightly outward, creating a graceful, star-shaped silhouette close to the ground. The leaves are broad at the base, tapering to firm points, and are edged with small, evenly spaced teeth that catch the light without making the plant overly spiny. Mature rosettes remain compact, making this species ideal for rock gardens, arid beds and feature containers.

In season, each rosette sends up a sturdy, upright flower stalk that branches elegantly near the top. The racemes are lined with many dangling, tubular blooms in warm shades of coral and salmon pink, with softer tones toward the tips, creating a glowing fountain of colour above the foliage. In the southern hemisphere, Aloe breviscapa typically flowers from late winter into early spring under garden conditions, with the exact timing shifting slightly in different climates.
