Aloe × eileeniae

Aloe × eileeniae is a rare, naturally occurring hybrid tree aloe from South Africa’s Eastern Cape, prized by collectors for its dramatic trunk and glowing golden-orange flower spikes. This striking aloe forms a single upright stem topped with a full rosette of broad, arching, blue-green leaves edged with small reddish teeth. With age the stem is clothed in a shaggy skirt of old, dried leaves, giving the plant a sculptural, almost palm-like presence that stands out beautifully in water-wise landscapes and large containers alike.

In habitat this hybrid grows on rocky coastal slopes and dune thicket in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, where it is adapted to windy, sun-baked conditions and periods of drought. In cultivation it thrives in full sun to very light shade, in a sharply drained, sandy or gravelly soil mix. Once established, plants are remarkably drought tolerant and need only occasional deep watering in summer, making them ideal for low-maintenance, water-wise gardens in Mediterranean, subtropical and warm temperate climates.
