Aristolochia is a large plant genus with over 500 species that is the namesake of the family Aristolochiaceae. Its members are commonly known as birthwort, pipevine or Dutchman’s pipe and are widespread and occur in the most diverse climates. Aristolochia is a genus of evergreen and deciduous woody vines and herbaceous perennials.

Aristolochia littoralis goes by several names, among them the Calico Flower and the Dutchman’s Pipe. It is native to Brazil and is a type of evergreen woody perennial flowering vine. The Calico Flower is brilliantly coloured with a mottled red and white pattern and is heart-shaped, resembling an orchid.
