Ormocarpum is a genus of legume in the family Fabaceae, and was recently assigned to the informal monophyletic Dalbergia clade of the Dalbergieae.
Ormocarpum trichocarpum, synonymously known as Diphaca trichocarpa or Ormocarpum setosum and commonly known as Harige Rusperboontjie, Krulrusperboontjie or Rusperboontjie in Afrikaans and Caterpillar Bush, Caterpillar-pod or Hairy Caterpillar-pod in English is a South African indigenous evergreen tree found in the KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Mpumalanga Provinces. This small tree with its sparse crown is up to 5m tall but usually shorter. It may be spiny. It can also be a shrub. The very thick blackish/greyish-brown and corky bark is very deeply fissured for the size of the tree. This is distinctive. The crown is small and sparse. Branches are rigid and arching. Short, light, curly hairs are common. The tree is covered with bristles. Young branches are purplish and become creamy white.
