Annona is a genus of approximately 166 species of flowering plants in the pawpaw/sugar apple family, Annonaceae.

Annona squamosa is a small, semi-deciduous, well-branched tree or shrub native to the tropical Americas and West Indies. They grow from 3 to 8 metres tall and require a tropical or subtropical climate with summer temperatures from 25 °C. It is widely cultivated for its sweetly-aromatic, edible fruits known as sugar-apples or sweetsops. Greenish-yellow flowers are borne in spring to early summer and are pollinated by nitidulid beetles.
