Ferraria is a genus of perennial bulbous plants in the Iridaceae family found in southern tropical Africa to the southern Cape. Of 11 the recognised species, 7 are found in the Cape region of South Africa and others found in Namaqualand.
Ferraria schaeferi is a South African indigenous perennial found in the Northern Cape from Lüderitz to Grootmis and extending inland along the Orange River to the Richtersveld but also extending into Namibia. It is usually found growing in deep sands along the coast, but also occurring further inland to rocky places near streams. It has sweetly scented short lived yellow flowers with dark brown spots and blotches and crisped brown margins.
