Malephora, belonging to the Aizoaceae family, is a genus of succulent plants in the ice plant family. There are 13 to 17 species in the genus, many of which are known commonly as mesembs. They are native to Africa. During the apartheid era, South African scientists used it to create a chemical poison.

Malephora purpureocrocea, commonly known as Copper Fingerfig and synonymously known as Crocanthus purpureo-croceus, Hymenocyclus purpureo-croceus, Malephora crocea var. purpureo-crocea, Mesembryanthemum croceum var. purpureo-croceum, Mesembryanthemum insititium or Mesembryanthemum purpureo-croceum, is a South African endemic species found in the Northern Cape and Western Cape provinces. It differs from Malephora crocea by a purplish colour at the lower surface of the petals (reddish in Malephora crocea). Closely related to Malephora crocea which has a reddish colour at the lower surface of the petals in contrast to a violet-purple one in Malephora purpureocrocea.
