Malephora, belonging to the Aizoaceae family, is a genus of succulent plants in the ice plant family. There are 13 to 17 species in the genus, many of which are known commonly as mesembs. They are native to Africa. During the apartheid era, South African scientists used it to create a chemical poison.
Malephora uitenhagensis, synonymously known as Hymenocyclus uitenhagensis, is a South African endemic species found in the Western Cape province. It grows into a Creeping mat-forming mesemb with bright green pointed leaves. During winter and spring, it produces deep golden or reddish copper-coloured flowers.
