Macowania is a genus of African flowering plants in the pussy’s-toes tribe within the sunflower family, Asteraceae. The genus was named in honour of Dr. Peter MacOwan who lived from 1830 to 1901. He was a botanist, director of the Cape Town Botanic Gardens and discoverer of new species at the Cape.

Macowania pulvinaris commonly known as Mamotasi is a South African indigenous species found in the Eastern Cape Province. The species name is derived from the word pulvinate which means cushion-shaped. It forms a dwarf spreading aromatic cushion-forming shrub. The leaves of this species are green above and white woolly below. During summer it bears yellow daisy flowers on short stalks.
