Moraea hiemalis is a vulnerable South African endemic perennial geophyte found in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands between Pietermaritzburg, Richmond and Kamberg growing on open mist belt and moist grasslands at altitudes of 1000 to 2000 m. It produces a solitary round leaf with inrolled margins and from late winter till mid-spring yellow flowers with dark veins and deeper yellow nectar guides appear.
