Melianthus is a genus of plants and shrubs in the family Melianthaceae native to South Africa, but much propagated in gardens worldwide. There are six species of Melianthus, which are all found in South Africa. Collectively known as Honey Bush, they are gorgeous shrubs up to 1.5 m tall with grey-green foliage. During spring it puts on a beautiful display of greenish flowers with red flower bracts. These are followed by attractive inflated fruits.

Melianthus dregeanus, commonly known as Red Honey Flower, is an attractive, medium sized, evergreen shrub endemic to South Africa reaching up to 1.5m in height which produces beautiful, scented, reddish coloured flowers in summer that attract butterflies to the garden. With its blue/green foliage it is a rewarding ornamental feature plant in any garden. It is a tough and adaptable plant that thrives in part shade.
