Sparaxis is a genus in the Iridaceae family that is endemic to South Africa and found mostly in the southwestern Cape and the western Karoo.
Sparaxis variegata is a bulbous plant that grows to 20cm in height. It has sword-shaped leaves. During spring it has stunning trumpet-shaped purple flowers with white marks on the lower tepals. It is best sown in autumn. Sparaxis is recommended for cultivation in both gardens and containers.
