The genus Stoebe is a fascinating and diverse group of plants belonging to the daisy family (Asteraceae), largely endemic to southern Africa. Often overlooked at first glance, these plants possess a subtle, understated beauty, with fine, feathery foliage and small, tufted flower heads that range in shades from dusty pinks to muted purples and whites. Stoebe nervigera, previously known as Seriphium nervigerum and commonly known as Spiky Snakebush in English or Steekblaarslangbos in Afrikaans, is a South African endemic perennial shrub of around 30cm found in the Northern Cape and Western Cape provinces, from Southern Namaqualand to Riversdale growing amongst fynbos on strandveld and sandy or gravelly flats and lower slopes. During autumn the cream to white flowers that attract butterflies to the garden appear.
